Making the Most of Spring RV Camping

Spring is a popular season for RV camping, and a camper allows you to enjoy nature while keeping the comforts of home close at hand. Camp Rite RV wants you to make the most out of your spring RV camping trip, so our RV experts have come up with this spring travel guide just for you.

Why Go RV Camping in the Spring?

While winter has a beauty all its own, most plants spend the cold months asleep. The warmth and light of spring allows flowers and trees to start to bloom again. Animals start to become more active, and soon all of nature is teeming with life.

While this liveliness continues into summer, it can be hard to enjoy at that time for two reasons: the sweltering heat and the crowds. Summer vacation lures many campers with children outdoors. Springtime offers more temperate weather and more privacy. If you struggle to reserve your favorite spot during summer, try going for it during the spring.

What Are Common Spring RV Camping Problems?

While spring RV camping can be a beautiful experience, the season has its fair share of problems. Luckily, all you need is a little preparation to manage these difficulties effectively.

Mosquitoes and Ticks

In spring, all of nature is bustling with activity, and that unfortunately includes pests as well. Bring insect repellent, and wear long sleeve clothing to protect yourself (though make sure it is breathable so that you don’t overheat). For ticks, avoid the brush where they like to hide. If one does attach itself, know the proper removal procedure. Use tweezers and not fire, and consider saving the tick for testing if the affected person begins to exhibit symptoms of Lyme disease.

Rain

“April showers bring May flowers” is a common proverb, and it’s true. Spring is one of the rainier seasons, so be sure to pack waterproof clothing like a rain jacket, galoshes, etc.

Changing Trails

Winter can take a toll on hiking trails. Between falling trees, erosion from snow, fallen trail markers, and other changes, a lot can happen. Rangers try to stay ahead of these things, but it is still best to check the information beforehand and budget extra time on your hikes to compensate for unforeseen detours.

Pollen

Those with pollen allergies may find spring to be the most difficult time of year, as trees start to fill the air with pollen again. If you or one of your party members has a pollen allergy, plan ahead. If you take antihistamines, bring enough for the whole trip, as well as any tissues or other toiletries you might need in case of an allergy attack.

Cold Weather

While spring is typically warmer than winter, there can still be a bit of chill around, especially earlier in the year. Check the weather report before you leave, and bring along warm clothes to change into if necessary.

What Are Some Spring RV Camping Activities?

The warmer weather of spring brings new possibilities. Adrenaline junkies can try mountain biking, while those seeking a calmer activity can do some birdwatching. Geocaching is another popular pastime for those taking a spring RV trip, as well as water activities like kayaking and paddleboarding.
